Describe the Pathogenesis
Adults
- Bloodsuckers - Less pathogenic
Larvae
- Arteritis - Thrombus - Death
Describe the clinical signs
Colic
Arteritis in cranial mesenteric and ileocolic arteries
Marked thickening of arterial wall
Thrombus formation
Infarction - area of necrosis in a tissue as result of obstruction
Abdominal colic and thrombo-embolus
Anemia
How do you diagnose?
Eggs - cannot differentiate eggs of large and small Strongyles
Larvae and Adults - can differentiate between large and small
Strongyles
What is the common name?
Large Strongyles
