Stratified Squamous Epithelium Flashcards
What is stratified squamous epithelium?
Multilayered flat cells
Where is stratified squamous epithelium found?
Esophagus, lip, plenum nasolabiale
Where are cells’ nuclei retained?
Esophagus and oral cavity
Where are cells’ nuclei lost?
Epidermis of the skin and plenum nasolabiale
What are stratified squamous epithelium connected by?
Intracellular bridges
What do intracellular bridges do and, what are they composed of?
Composed of a type of intermediate filament and they link cells together
Where is connective tissues found? Why?
What are papillae?
Connective tissues is found underlying the epithelium because it provides vascularization for the acellular epithelial lining.
Papillae are pale pink finger-like projections within the connective tissue.
