Parathyroid Gland Flashcards
What is present in the parathyroid gland
Capsule & cord-like arrangement of cells & capillaries & chief/principal cells
How are cells oriented in the parathyroid gland
In a cord-like arrangement
What are cells arranged around and are oxyphilic cells present
Cells are arranged around capillaries and oxyphilic cells are NOT present
What is the functional tissue of the parathyroid and what cells are contained here
Parenchyma, principal/chief cells
Difference between internal and external parathyroid
Internal: adjacent or embedded in the thyroid gland
External: a variable distance away
Difference between light and dark principal cells
Light: inactive, large, pale nucleus and acidophilic cytoplasm
Dark: active, smaller, dark nuclei with deeply acidophilic cytoplasm
