Stimuli Flashcards
Define stimulus discriminating training
The procedure of reinforcing a response in the presence of an SD and extinguishing it in the presence of an S^
What is stimulus generalisation?
When an Individual learns the response to a particular stimulus and applies it to another stimulus. Individual responds the same way to two different stimuli.
What is a common-element class?
A set of stimuli that have at least one physical trait in common. E.g. All cars have 4 wheels, windows and horns.
What is a stimulus equivalence class?
A set of stimuli that are grouped together despite being completely dissimilar. E.g. Chocolate, broccoli and bread are all foods
Define unlearned generalisation.
Organisms are likely to perform a behaviour in a new situation if that situation is similar to the one in which the behaviour was originally learned.
State three types of stimulus generalisation:
- Unlearned Generalisation
- common-element class
- Stimulus equivalence class
