- Severe social disapproval of personal characteristics or beliefs that are against cultural norms
- “Process by which reaction of others spoils normal identity”

- Condition is hidden and not known to the public at large (eg. scar on leg)

- Condition cant be hidden and is very obvious (eg. wheelchair)

A
Real experience of prejudice, discrimination and disadvantage as the consequence of a particular condition

What is Felt Stigma?
A
Fear that discrimination will occur which can be worrying
Scambler and Hopkins research has shown that in the case of epilepsy, actual stigma is rare
