Q

What is Health Seeking Behaviour?

A

Many people tolerate symptoms for some time.
There are ‘triggers’ that make an individual seek help.

1) Occurence of interpersonal crisis (e.g. death in family)
2) Perceived interference with social or personal relations
3) ‘Sanctioning’ - Pressure from others to consult
4) Perceived interference with vocational or physical activity
5) ‘Temporalizing of symptomatology’ - Setting of a deadline (e.g. if im not well by monday….)

When clinicians done take account of the trigger which the individual uses to seek help, the higher the chance that the patient will stop treatment or not adhere.
