Secure Attachment

A
  • Strongest type
  • Child feels he can depend on his parent when he needs support.
  • Child knows what to expect
  • Plays well with other children his age

Avoidant Attachment

A
  • Non Secure
  • Avoidant children have learned that depending on parents wont get them the secure feeling they want, so they learn to take care of themselves
  • May seem too independent
  • Dont often ask for help but get frustrated easily
  • May be aggressive

Ambivalent Attachment

A
  • Ambivalence: not being completely sure of something
  • Children have learned that sometimes their needs will be met and sometimes they arent
  • Notice what behaviour got parents attention and use that over and over
  • Ambivalent children are often very clingy
  • Act younger than they are

Disorganised Attachment

A
  • Dont know what to expect from their parents
  • Do things that make no sense
  • Speak fast and hard to understand

2 Types of disorganised attachments:

1) Controlling: bossy with their friends
2) Care giving: treat other children in childish way acting like parent
