STEMI Flashcards
What is a STEMI?
ST elevation is commonly associated with myocardial infarction.
Observed with ST segment elevation at the J-point - the junction between the end of the QRS complex and the start of the ST segment.
What is the J-point and how is it observed?
- J point is the junction between the end of the QRS complex and the start of the ST segment.
How do I recognise a STEMI ?
- J-point evaluation above the isoeletric line. The height of the J-point is used to measure the extend of the MI.
- Measured in millimetres.
- The height of the elevation will depend on if it triggers activation of primary percutaneous coronary intervention (PPCI).
What leads can a STEMI be present in?
Varies according to where the infarct is occurring.
Signs and symptoms of a STEMI
Can be asymptomatic or symptomatic
Women are more likely to have different symptoms to men.
Some symptoms include:
- Chest pain
- Palpitation s
- nausea
- shock
Significance of STEMI
Reciprocal changed may be observed these are STD at the J-point however these are not always present.
Non-ST elevation MI (NSTEMI) presents with ACS symptoms However may only present with STD or no change at all.
