STEMI Flashcards

1
Q

What is a STEMI?

A

ST elevation is commonly associated with myocardial infarction.

Observed with ST segment elevation at the J-point - the junction between the end of the QRS complex and the start of the ST segment.

Q

How do I recognise a STEMI ?

A
  • J-point evaluation above the isoeletric line. The height of the J-point is used to measure the extend of the MI.
  • Measured in millimetres.
  • The height of the elevation will depend on if it triggers activation of primary percutaneous coronary intervention (PPCI).

Q

Significance of STEMI

A

Reciprocal changed may be observed these are STD at the J-point however these are not always present.

Non-ST elevation MI (NSTEMI) presents with ACS symptoms However may only present with STD or no change at all.
