Stem Cells Flashcards
What stem cells can be ?
The stem cells can be adult tissue-renewingstem cells, which may be described as oligopotent or pluripotent (giving rise to fewer [oligo] or more [pluri] different cell types in the tissue of interest)
What are stem cells ?
an undifferentiated cell of a multicellular organism which is capable of giving rise to indefinitely more cells of the same type, and from which certain other kinds of cell arise by differentiation.
- Can regenerate tissue and self-renew
- Infrequent, asymmetric cell division
What are the Transit Amplifying cell ?
- Committed to differentiation
- No self-renewal
- Rapid cell divisions to increase “bulk”
Terminally differentiated cells
- Serve specialised tissue functions
* Do not divide or regenerate
Quality control of the cell cycle is exerted by inhibiting cyclin/Cdkcomplexes
DNA damage : G1/S-CDK /S-cDK(
Unreplicated DNA and DNA damage M-CDK-
Chromosome unattached to spindle APC/C
Does Tissue renewal depend on stem cell ?
Tissue renewal does not depend on stem cells: Insulin-producing bcells in islets of Langerhans renew themselves
Does an organ require stem cells to regenerate?
No, liver can be regenerated from hepatocytes.
