Exam Questions Flashcards
How can protein move between compartments ?
Gated transport only applicable to transport of proteins through the nucleus .Proteins reach the nucleus by passing through nuclear pores complexes on nuclear membrane
Vesicular Transport : Membrane -enclosed transport intermediates ferry proteins from one tppoliigically equivalent compartment to another
Protein Translocation : Protein translocate transport the proteins across the membrane from the cytosol to specific organelle.
What is the Na+ and K+ pump ?
Pumps out Na+ from cells while importing K+ due to working against the electrochemical gradient of the two ions and requiring ATP
Name a lipid component of the Lipid Bilayer ?
Phospholipids , Glycolipids and cholesterol.
Can lipid move within the membrane ?
By lateral diffusion flexion and rotation and flip flop
Difference between a transporter and channel?
Transporter : Binds to molecules that will be transported through membrane .
Channel doesn’t it works like a gate open and close .
Why membrane Transporters have mostly alpha helixes structures ?
They are abundant in proteins located in the cell membrane because the hydrophilic polypeptide backbone is H -bonded to itself in alpha helixes and shielded from the hydrophobic lipid membrane .
