Q

How can protein move between compartments ?

A

Gated transport only applicable to transport of proteins through the nucleus .Proteins reach the nucleus by passing through nuclear pores complexes on nuclear membrane

Vesicular Transport : Membrane -enclosed transport intermediates ferry proteins from one tppoliigically equivalent compartment to another

Protein Translocation : Protein translocate transport the proteins across the membrane from the cytosol to specific organelle.

Q

Why membrane Transporters have mostly alpha helixes structures ?

A

They are abundant in proteins located in the cell membrane because the hydrophilic polypeptide backbone is H -bonded to itself in alpha helixes and shielded from the hydrophobic lipid membrane .
