Validity
The extent to which a method gives you the “correct” answer i.e. measures what you want it to measure
Absolute validity
the extent to which a measurement or method accurately reflects the true value or reality of what it is intended to assess, without bias or error
Relative validity
the degree to which the results of one measurement or method agree with those of a reference or gold-standard method, rather than directly reflecting an absolute true value
Sensitivity
How good your method is at identifying people who are cases
Specificity
How well does this method identify people who are fine (not cases)
Accuracy
Describes the extent to which the measurement is close to the true value
Predictive value
the effectiveness of a diagnostic test in predicting the presence or absence of a disease or condition
Precision, Repeatability, Reproducibility, Reliability
The degree to which repeated measurements give the same value each time you use it
Analytical accuracy
The difference between the reported and the true amount of the nutrient present in the sample is a measure of the analytical accuracy (“trueness”) of the laboratory test
Analytical sensitivity
The smallest concentration that can be distinguished from the blank “minimum detection limit”
Analytical specificity
The ability of an analytical method to measure exclusively the substance of interest
