Q

How do we measure isotopes in urine?

A

Isotope will evenly disperse amongst the water, then that label will go out in your urine
- We can then measure the isotopes concentration in urine (isotopic enrichment)

Q

How do we measure the amount of O18 in our breath (CO2 pool)?

A

The difference in the amount of H2 and O18 leaving in the urine tells you how much O18 was lost through the CO2 pathway in breath
