Statistical Tests - Standard Deviation (Only for CPAC's) Flashcards
What is standard deviation
The spread around the mean
What does a low standard deviation indicate
The data has a narrow range and that the points are closely grouped around the mean. Could indicate greater reliability.
What does a high standard deviation indicate
That the data has a larger range and that the points are less well grouped around the mean. Could indicate lower reliability.
What is the formula for standard deviation
s=√∑(x-y)²/n-1
What is the x in the standard deviation
each value from the population, which needs to be inserted into (x-y)² individually and all the totals need to be added up
What does the y stand for in the standard deviation
the mean of the population
What does the n stand for in the standard deviation
The number of data points
What should standard deviation present
A bell curve
Do you have to calculate standard deviation in a test
No but will have to in CPAC’s
