Definition
Numerical data, often provided in graph form. Usually comes from quantitative methods and favoured by Positivists.
OCS
give us a completely accurate view of the way that the criminal justice system processes offenders through arrests, trials, punishments and so on.
Because Official Statistics are collected by governments, large samples are normally used because governments have the resources to carry-out this type of sampling. - representative and generalisable
No researcher objectivity
CSEW
The CSEW is a face-to-face survey which originally targeted between 8000 and 11,000 people between 1983 and 2006. However the 2008 survey conducted 46,983 face-to-face structured interviews with a sample of people aged 16 and over living in private households in England and Wales.
They are usually collected in the same way from the same sources which adds to their overall reliability
