Stages Of Learning Flashcards
Define learning
A change in behaviour as a result of practice
Define performance
A temporary occurrence that can change from time to time due to many external and internal influences
What is the cognitive stage of learning
Used by novice
Trial and error leaning
Demonstration and instructions are vital
Attempt skill, make mistakes as motor programmes aren’t developed
Feedback is extrinsic, must be clear and simple
What is the associative stage
Second stage of learning
Learner performs and practices the skill under the variety of situations
Fewer mistakes movements are smoother, almost correct technique, motor programmes developing
Feedback becomes more detailed, learner makes use of intrinsic or kinaesthesic
What is the autonomous stage of learning
Final stage of learning
Improvements are less rapid
Actions are fluent and automatic, motor programmes fully developed
Performer can pay attention to fine details of task and increasingly complex situations
Performer can analyse performance and adjust own actions
What’s an example of the cognitive stage
Hockey player working out actions of a pass
What’s an example of the associative stage
Hockey player passing is now accurate, may try replicate performance to professionals
What’s an example of the autonomous stage
Elite hockey player, playing a perfect pass with accuracy and precision
