what is the first stage of grief?
denial - when one refuses to believe what is happening. not accepting the loss.
what is the second stage of grief?
anger - when one is irritable about what is happening. usually angry at the deceased person for dying, angry at yourself, or God
what is the third stage of grief?
bargaining - when one makes promises in hope to change the outcome of the event. ex: attempting to make deals with God, wishing for the person to come back
what is the fourth stage of grief?
depression - when one is really sad when they realize the outcome is unable to change. feeling hopeless, mourning loss, numb, or suicidal
what is the fifth stage of grief?
acceptance - when one accepts what is happening and moves on from the event, adjusting to regular life.
what is a wake ceremony?
also called the calling hours/showing; a ceremony that allows family and friedns to view/watch over the deceased person before the funeral. the person is in the casket. this is an INFORMAL ceremony.
what is a funeral?
any official ceremony that takes place in the presence of the casketed body. the body is present during the ceremony - lid may be open or closed. this is a FORMAL ceremony.
