Psychological core - the ‘real you’, your attitudes, values, interests, motives and beliefs about yourself.
Typical response - your usual response in most situations
Role related behaviour - how we behave differently depending on the role we have, that is affected by our surroundings (environment)
B = f (P)*E - a person has natural traits that are modified by the environment they are in.
Strengths of the interactionist theory of personality
- It explains how the environment can trigger inherited traits
- Explains why an individual might act differently in different situations (e.g. takes control on football pitch but quiet in English lessons)
- Explains why people in the same environment behave differently
