What is the dfinition of a group?
Those social aggregates that involve social awareness and the potential for interaction
What are the 4 stages of development that a group goes through before becoming cohesive and effective?
1: Forming
2: Storming
3: Norming
4: Performing
What is forming?
The familiarisation stage where group members get to know eachother and their strengths and weaknesses
What is storming?
Members question the group structure and compete for status
-They may have difficulty making decisions
What is norming?
A need for common goals is recognised and members begin to work together
-Team members work towards a common goal
What is performing?
Each memeber is aware of their role and feels they can contribute to the success of the team
What is Steiner’s model of group effectiveness?
Actual productivity = Potential productivity - Faulty processes
What are the 2 categories of faulty processes?
- Co-ordination losses
- Motivation loses due to social loafing
