What do you understand by the term DOMS?
A
=delayed onset muscle soreness
- May be experienced 24-48 hours after exercise
- Due to structural damage to muscle fibres
- E.g plyometrics

How do hyperbaric champers help the rehab of sports injuries?
A
- Reduces recovery time
- Chamber is pressurised so more oxygen can be breathing it
- Therefore more oxygen can be diffused to the injured area
- Oxygen can reduce swelling and help repair

Explain how the use of an ice bath can help to reduce the DOMS
A
- Involves sitting in an ice bath for between 5 and 20 mins
- Vasoconstriction- reduced blood flow to the area
- After leaving the ice bath, area is flooded with new blood (vasodilation)
- The blood carries oxygen and nutrients
