Using Bandura’s Model, explain the factors which may contribute to a performer’s level of self-efficacy

A

According to Bandura, a performer’s self efficacy is based on 4 primary sources of information which are performance accomplishments, vicarious experience, verbal persuasion and emotional arousal

  • Performace accomplishments is previous success at the task. What you have achieved in training and in competition forms the basis of future expectations. Repeated success leads to positive expectations of future success
  • Vicarious experience is watching others of a similar standard successfully perform a skill
  • Verbal persuasion is encouragement from significant others
  • Emotional arousal is perceiving physiological such as increased heart rate as positve
