Identify ad explain the second and third stages of group formation (2)
The second stage is storming which is when individuals establish their position within the group and they discuss ideas. The third stage is norming which is where agreement of roles takes place and the group gains stability
Explain the term ‘task cohesion’ and why it is vital for success in any game (4)
Task cohesion is found in a group that is bound together in a drive to achieve a common objective/goal such as winning. it is vital as players need to be able to interact effectively and have good communication. Good task cohesion can help social cohesion. Social cohesion is the ability of the group to relate well to each other and get along socially
Identify and explain Carron’s factors that contribute to the cohesiveness of a group (3)
Carron proposed that there are 4 key factors affecting the development of cohesiveness which are environmental factors, person factors, leadership factors and team factors/ Environmental factors includes factors such as facilities and equipment available. Personal factors are characteristics of individuals such as the ability and motivation. Leadership factors includes behaviour and personality of the coach. Finally team factors includes the group task and desire to succeed
Explain how faulty processes can have a negative impact on group productivity (5)
- Actual productivity= potential productivity- losses due to faulty processes
- Lack of communication
- Motivational losses
- Incorrect arousal levels
- Avoidance behaviours
- Ringlemann effect- as the group size increases, the individual contribution decreases
- Social loafing= Reduction in motivation and individual effort. The individual hides in the group
