The class system in Britain is less pronounced and more fluid than ever before but there are still social divisions within our society.
There are now more divisions within the middle and working classes
Social mobility
The changes in wealth, education and occupation over a persons lifetime
Socio-economic
Relating to or concerned with the interaction of social and economic factors.
Economic circumstances can affect social experiences, and vice versa
Sports and social classes
Sports like football are still associated more with the working class but divisions are by no means as clear as they were in the twentieth century.
The middle classes are more likely to state that they are a football fan and more affluent older supporters are now more prevalent as football supporters
Gender
In the twentieth century there is still a difference in the participation levels between men and women in sport
Far more men get involved in sport either competing or spectating
However, more women are involved in physical exercise and there is far more interest in health and fitness activities

There is an increase in female sports presenters
Law and order
More rights towards spectator safety
The law has also been used to protect or to litigate against officials and referees
21st century has introduced football stadium banning orders for fans participating in anti social behaviour.
21st century has introduced the ability for the police to punish players who commit illegal acts on the pitch such as assault.
Laws to prevent discrimination based on race or religion etc
Rules such as golf club membership rules no longer discriminate against gender due to the 2010 equality laws
Education
Comprehensive school = Intended to provide all the secondary education of all the children in a given area without an organisation in three sides.
GCSE Exams have been introduced as well as a level exams
Availability of time, money and transport
Cars and planes are able to take both athletes and spectators to travel to sports competitions
People often have the weekends off which gives them time to compete in sport
Globalisation of sport
A process that involves sport as a worldwide business and features corporate brands, media coverage, and freedom of movement of sports participants, officials and spectators
Freedom of movement and greater exposure of people to sport
Means that players can come from all around the world to play in England.
Players will also change nationalities to compete for different teams

More women’s sports are shown on TV
TV, radio, press, internet, cinema
More sports are broadcasted
