Spirometry Flashcards
What is VT?
Tidal volume
Air moved by a normal breath
What is IRV?
Inspiratory reserve volume
Additional amount inhaled after a normal inspiration
What is ERV?
Expiratory reserve volume
Amount of extra air that can be exhaled after a normal breath
What is RV?
Residual volume
Amount of air left in lungs after full expiration - prevents alveolar collapse
What is VC?
Vital capacity
Maximum amount of air moved by the lungs
What is TLC?
Total lung capacity
What is FRC?
Functional reserve volume
Volume of air in the lungs after a passive exhalation
How do you calculate inspiratory capacity?
VT + IRV
How do you calculate expiratory capacity?
VT + ERV
How to calculate FRC?
ERV + RV
How do you calculate total lung capacity?
VC + RV
How do you calculate VC?
IRV + VT + ERV
What is FVC?
Forced vital capacity
Maximal amount of air that the patient can forcibly remove after taking a maximal inhalation
Wbat is FEV1?
Forced expiratory volume in 1 second
Volume exhaled in the first second
What is PEF?
Peak expiratory flow
Maximal speed of airflow as the patient exhales
