Tumours
Rheumatoid arthritis
Degenerative disease
What degenerative disease can cause chronic spinal cord compression?
Spondylosis Osteocytes Bulging discs Facet joint hypertrophy Subluxation
Presentation of complete cord transection?
Complete loss of sensation below the level
Complete paralysis below the level
What is brown sequard syndrome?
Cord hemisection
Presentation of cord hemisection?
Ipsilateral loss of motor and propioception - motor and dorsal column
Contralateral loss of pain and temperature - spinothalamic
Presentation of anterior cord syndrome?
Motor function impaired
Pain and temperature loss
Propioception spared
How do you get a central cord syndrome?
Hyperflexion/ extension injury to stenotic neck
Presentation of central cord syndrome ?
Motor impairment more than sensory
Upper limbs affected more than lower limbs
Distal affected more than proximal
Bladder dysfunction
