Abscence seizures
Brief <10second pauses
Presents in childhood
Tonic- clinic seizures?
Loss of consciousness
Limbs stiffen (tonic) and jerk (clonic)
Post-ictal confusion and drowsiness
Atonic seizure?
Sudden loss of muscle tone -> fall
Myoclonic seizure?
Sudden jerk of limb, face or trunk
Cause of focal epilepsy?
Underlying structural cause
Onset of focal epilepsy?
Any age

Simple
Complex

Carbamazepine

Awareness is unimpaired
