Spinal Cord Flashcards
2 Anterior Horn Enlargements
Cervical (C5-T1) for upper extremity
Lumbosacral (L1-S3) for lower
Somatotropic Distribution in Anterior Horn
Proximal innervation more medial
2 Ascending White Matter Tracts in Posterior Column
Fasciculus cuneatus - upper extremity, anything coming in above T6
Fasciculus gracilis - lower, coming in below
Lateral Horn Gray Matter Content
Intermediolateral cell column - pregang symp nerve bodies
4 Ascending Spinal Cord Tracts (2 lateral and 2 posterior)
Spinothalamic Tract
Spinocerebellar Tracts
Fasciculus cuneatus and gracilis
4 Descending Spinal Cord Anterior Column Tracts
Anterior corticospinal tract
Tectospinal Tract
Vestibulospinal tract
Reticulospinal tract
Spinothalamic Tract
Pain and temperature, synapse and cross in spinal cord so go up contralateral. Diff from gen sense which go up ipsi, so test w/ feather and pinprick
Spinocerebellar Tracts
Carry proprioceptive information
2 Descending Lateral Column Tracts
Rubrospinal tract
Corticospinal tract
(Lateral) Corticospinal tract
Volitional fibers from cortex that synapse on anterior horn to give lower motor neurons
Vestibulospinal tract
Vestibular system for balance
Reticulospinal Tract
Brings info to spinal cord about wakefulness and deals with autonomics. Not really sensory or motor
Tectospinal tract
Visual into upper SC so head moves correctly
Anterior corticospinal tract
Fibers that have branched off to innervate trunk musculature, similar (and can compensate for) to lateral corticospinal tract which does extremities
2 Contents of Intervertebral Discs
Nucleus pulposus and anulus fibrosus
