Speeds SP Flashcards
Where would you find a published list of Temporary Speed Restrictions?
The WONs.
What details would you expect to find published about TSRs?
Speed
Location
Mileage
lines concerned
reason for TSR
What boards and equipment would you find associated with a TSR?
A warning board with associated portable AWS magnet 200 meters apart, followed by a Speed indicator board and then a termination board.
Describe a cancelling indicator that is permanently installed on a single line?
White St Andrews cross with a blue background.
What is the meaning of an AWS cancelling indicator and what does it look like?
This means that the AWS warning you have just cancelled does not apply to your train.
What boards may be displayed as Spate Indicators and what is its meaning?
Then warning boards and Speed indicator boards may be displayed as SPATE,
This means Speed previously advertised terminated early.
What action must you take when you pass a speed board?
control the speed of your train through out the speed restriction until the rear of your train has passed the termination board, to which you can then increase speed back to line speed.
How long is a temporary speed restriction?
From the speed board to the termination board, plus the length f your train.
What must you do if the warning board or speed indicator is missing?
The driver must tell the signaller immediately, stopping specially if necessary.
What would you do if one light was out on an emergency indicator?
Report it to the signaller immediately, stopping specially if necessary.
Head light defective, portable light available?
75 MPH
Head light defective, No portable light available?
20 MPH
Horn partially defective?
100 mph for 80x trains. This is a TOC specific instruction and may not be the same for other TOCs.
Horn completely defective?
20 MPH
Hot Axel box detected but normal heat?
Normal speed, Re-examine after 50 miles, or over another detector: no further evidence of overheating then normal speed.
Axel box hot?
10 MPH to clear the mainline only, 5 MPH over points.
Axel box hot, but not checked within 10 mins?
20 MPH to clear the mainline only, 5 MPH over points.
Passing a signal at danger?
Reduced speed, being able to stop short of any obstruction, 15 MPH over any points.
What is the max speed during single line working in the in the wrong direction?
50 MPH, 15 MPH over any points.
What is the speed during single line working in the right direction?
Normal speed applies.
What is the speed during temporary block working?
Max speed 50 MPH, 15 MPH over any points.
What are the speeds for propelling movements?
20 MPH max to clear the line, 5 MHP in depots.
What is the speed for driving in falling or disturbed snow?
100 MPH max, 10 MPH below line speed.
What is the speed for driving with slight wheel flats?
Normal speed.
What is the speed for driving with serious wheel flats?
20 MPH
What is the speed if the ADD is isolated?
100 MPH for the class 91 traction, line speed using the other pantograph with the class 8XXs.
What is the speed when air suspension isolated?
100 MPH with MK4 coaching stock, 75 MPH with class 8XXs formations.
Class 8XXs if you isolate one bogie, then the other bogie on the same vehicle must be isolated because this is to level the vehicle.
if the air suspension on Bogie 2 on a DPT vehicle is isolated, so will the sanding equipment on that vehicle. be isolated in addition.
What is the speed if the AWS is isolated?
60 MPH with no competent person, 40 MPH during poor visibility with or without competent person. Normal speed with a competent person.
What is the speed if the DSD becomes defective?
If the AWS/TPWS is operative the train can proceed at 60 MPH without a competent person, with a competent person, its line speed.
If the DSD, AWS/TPWS are defective the train must NOT MOVE until a competent person is provided and when this occurs then the 40 MPH restrictive speed applies. - rule change to the rssb rule book and this last part of the answer needs checked and re written.
What is the speed if the TPWS becomes defective?
60 MPH without a competent person, and line speed with a competent person.
What is the speeds when vehicle brakes are isolated?
the ratio is 1 in 5 or 2 in 10 allowed to be isolated, 10 MPH below line speed for one vehicle, 20 MPH below line speed for two vehicles but not below 35 MPH.
What is the speed examining the line in a tunnel?
10 MPH, if you have a completely defective headlight then you can not examine.
What is the speed examine the OHLE?
Not exceed 20 MPH, and be accompanied during the hours of darkness.
If you are asked to examine an over bridge due to suspect damage what are your actions?
Stop before going under the bridge, Max speed 5 MPH.
What speed do you carry out a line exam when requested to by the signaller?
Carry the line exam out at “caution” being able to stop short of any obstruction, or any other speed the signaller states.
