What must you and the shunter do before any movement takes place?
Reach a clear understanding about what exactly requires to be done and how the shunting movements will be controlled.
What action must the drive take if they cannot maintain sight of the person controlling the movement by hand signals.
Stop immediately and must only restart when the shunter gives you the appropriate hand signal.
Demonstrate the following hand signals for controlling movements.
Refer to rule book images. SS2 pages 12 and 13.
What is the permitted maximum speed in depots, sheds etc?
Must not exceed 5 MPH.
When stabling trains or traction unit in depots and sidings, how should they be secured?
You must not rely on the automatic brake to secure any train, the parking brakes must be applied.
When can a propelling movement on a running line take place?
Where authorised in the local instructions.
What is the definition of propelling?
Unpowered/dead vehicles being pushed by another train.
