How can you Identify a the PILOT?
By an armlet worn on the left arm with “PILOT” on it with white letters on a red back ground.
What arrangements will the Pilot make while setting up the single line working?
The Pilot will make sure there is enough room for trains to draw forward/set back at the end of the signal line, clear of any necessary protection.
How would you regard signals when working over the single line in the right direction?
Their normal meaning
What would be displayed at a set of unworked or facing points to indicate they are secured and padlocked so that movements can be made safely over them?
A green flag or light placed alongside them.
What would you expect to receive when given authority to proceed at any AHBC under local control?
A green hand signal.
How are movements controlled when working over the single line in the wrong direction?
Hand signals, except where it is possible to use shunting or position light signals where possible.
A hand signaller will not be provided if there is a main aspect signal available to return trains to the proper line at the end of the single line.
What information does the pilotman relay to you before allowing you to enter the single line?
- Mannded level crossings.
- Unworked points.
- Speed.
- Intermediate signal boxes which are closed.
- Crossovers not used.
- Additional Information.
- Location of hand signallers.
- Cross overs. (entrance/Exit)
- Over what lines. (Up/Down)
- Automatic level crossings, only pass with green hand signal.
- TSR/ESR, going facing road you won’t see any boards.
Before entering single line working by pilot, what must you be in possession of?
A completed single line working ticket RT3193
When are you permitted to enter the single line without a single line working ticket?
To assist a failed train.
To Evacuate passengers from a failed train.
To Remove a portion of a divided train.
To remove a train or vehicles that have proceeded without authority.
train is worked by one or more locos, lead driver gets ticket.
Who can authorise you to pass a signal at danger?
Signaller
Pilotman/hand-signaller
Shunter
PICCOP
Crossing keeper
What colour of hand signal would you expect to receive when given authority to proceed when crossing back to the proper line?
Yellow.
What colour of hand signal would you expect to receive when given authority to proceed at any signal where trains might be required to stop?
Yellow.
What colour of hand signal would you expect to receive when given authority to proceed at any intermediate signal box, unless it is closed?
Yellow.
What must you do if you are the first train over the single line?
Proceed cautiously, stopping where necessary to allow the pilot or your self if the pilot is not present to inform everyone that SLW has been introduced, and tell any corssing keeper of the SLW arrangements and check that points are properly secured.
if its just the driver, tell anyone working on or near the line that SLW has been introduced and which like it applies to .
What must you do with the SLW ticket at the end of the SLW section?
Write CANCELLED across the ticket and give it back to the pilotman, if unaccompanied keep the ticket and hand it in to your DTMs.
