When can a Driver pass a signal at danger on their own authority?
The only occasion a Driver can pass a signal at danger on their own authority is whilst driving over a signal section on absolute block lines, specifically “IBH” or “Controlled” signal operated by the same signal box.
This can only be done once all normal avenues have been exhausted to contact the signal box and you are absolutely certain without doubt the controlling signal box is closed, methods of contacting are:
- GSMR.
- SPT.
- Mobile Phone.
- Walking up to the signal box your self and looking for the signaller.
What reasons are there to pass a signal at danger?
- An electric train is to pass the signal protecting an isolated section and proceed towards the limiting point.
- A train is to pass the signal protecting an engineering works T2 possession to gain access to station, siding,a line under SLW.
- An engineering train is to enter a T3 possession or leave at an intermediate point.
- Single line working.
- Working by pilot.
- Signal is disconnected or defective.
- The line is to be examined to check that it’s clear.
- The signal cannot be cleared because level crossing equipment has failed.
- A train is to enter the section to assist a failed train.
- To evacuate passengers in a platform already occupied that is not PP.
- A train is to proceed at caution through an AB section from the signal box in rear when a failed train has been removed.
- A train is to enter the section after a train has proceeded without authority or the front portion of a devided train has passed through the action.
- The signal is to be passed for shunting purposes.
- A train has not cleared the overlap so the signal can not be cleared.
