Author of The House of Bernarda Alba, in which tensions are caused by the title character’s declaration of an 8 year period of mourning for her husband, exacerbated by the arrival of the handsome Pepe El Romano. In Blood Wedding, just before the Bride is married to the Groom, Leonardo convinces the Bride to run away with him, causing a feud which eventually results in Leonardo and the Groom killing each other. He also wrote Yerma, about the title character’s yearning for motherhood and her eventual killing of her apathetic husband. Those three plays are grouped together as this man’s Rural Trilogy.
