SP6b Current, charge, and energy Flashcards
What does charge do and what is it measured in?
.charge travels around a circuit, given the symbol Q to represent the quantity of electrical ‘material’
.measured in coulombs (C)
What is current a measure of?
the amount of charge passing a point per second.
What is 1 ampere equal to?
1 coulomb of charge passing a point in a circuits in one second.
charge = ?
current x time
When is there a potential difference of 1 volt?
when there is a transfer of 1 joule of energy for each coulomb of charge.
Describe energy transfers in a circuit (5)
.a cell is a store of chemical energy
.energy is transferred to the charges in the cell
.the charges have electrical potential energy
.energy is tranferred to the lamp as they pass through
.the lamp transfers energy by radiation and heating
Explain flow of charge in series circuit.
.there are no junctions
.each charge passes through all of the components and tranfers some of its energy to each component
Explain flow of charge in parallel circuit.
.energy carried by each charge does not change as it passes a junction
.not all charges take the same route
energy transferred = ?
charge x potential difference
