SP3h Lenses Flashcards
What is the power of the lens?
how much it bends light that is transmitted through it.
What is the power of a lens determined by?
it’s focal length - the shorter/fatter the focal length, the stronger the power of the lens and vice versa.
Power (D) = ?
1/focal length (m)
Near point?
the closest an object can be from the eye without it appearing blurred.
Far point?
the furthest an object can be from the eye without it appearing blurred.
What do converging (convex) lenses do?
bend rays together.
What do diverging (concave) lenses do?
spread rays out.
What do converging and divergong lenses both do?
change the direction of the light transmitted through them.
In a diverging lens, the rays of light do not actually go through the image only appear that way, so the image is ?
virtual.
In a converging lens, the rays actually pass through the image, so the image is ?
real.
Lens?
a piece of transparent material shaped to refract light in a particular way.
