SP1f Newton's Third Law and Momentum Flashcards
1
Q
Newton’s third law?
A
for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction.
2
Q
Momentum?
A
a measure of the tendency of an object to keep moving (the strenght of the movement).
3
Q
What does momentum depend on?
A
.mass
.velocity
4
Q
What is the total momentum of a system before a collision equal to?
A
the total momentum of the system after the collision (provided no external force acts on it).
5
Q
What are the two types of collision?
A
.elastic - both momentum and kinetic energy are conserved, objects do not move off together
.inelastic - only momentum is conserved, objects collide and move off together
