signs and symptoms
rigidity and pain at root of tongue, swelling and distension in medial aspect of lower limbs and cold limbs, and jaundice
pathway
- originates medial side of big toe
- runs up medial aspect of foot at junction of red-white skin below 1st MT
- passes medial malleolus anteriorly travelling up medial thigh to inguinal region
- enters abdomen and internally connects with CV2, 3, 4 before resurfacing at SP 13-15, 4 cun lateral to midline
- goes internally to CV10 and connects with SP+ST+HT
- resurfaces at GB24 at 7th intercostal space, 4 cun from midline. continues up 1 intercostal space to LR14 before going up to 2nd intercostal space
- travels down to 6th intercostal at mid axillary line
- runs back up internally towards oesophagus, passing through LU1
- terminates lower surface of root of tongue
Luo connecting meridian
longitudinal - follows main pathway, enters abdomen to connect with LI+ST
transverse - SP luo pt SP4
divergent meridian
starts from thigh at Jimen (SP11), enters abdomen and inguinal region at QIchong (ST30). connects with SP+ST then continues to Quepen (ST12) before connecting with divergent meridian of
terminates at root of tongue
Muscle region
starts at big toe, continues up and knots at medial side of knee, travels along thigh to external genitalia, abdomen and umbilicus. passes through ribs and disperses to chest
Yinbai (SP1) - hidden white
medial side of big toe, 0.1 cun posterior to corner of nail
Jing-well pt
F: regulate+control xue-flow, tonify SP Qi+warm SP Yang, clear heat in HT+calm the mind, revive+rescuscitate+calm spirit
I: abdominal distension+fullness, diarrhoea, nausea, ashtmatic cough/breathing, chest pain, menorrhagia, mass uterine bleeding, restlessness, dream disturved sleep, abnormal sorrow
Taibai (SP3) - supreme white
posterior border of head of 1stMT bone, junction red-white skin
shu-stream pt, Yuan pt
F: tonify SP+harm MJ, activate yang, reg Qi flow
I: constipation, hunger with no desire to eat, pus in stools, belching, slow pulse, diarrhoea, hypochondriac pain, cardiac pain, gastric+abdominal pain
Gongsun (SP4) - grandfather grandson
anterior and inferior to bvase of 1st MT, junction red-white skin
Luo pt, Chong confluent pt
F: tonify SP+harm ST, reg Qi+xue, transform damp, calm spirit, reg chongmai+mens
I: dysentery, oedema, gastric pain, vomiting, BL in stools, somnolence, restlessness, insomnia, endometriosis, irregular/late mens
Sanyinjiao (SP6) - three yin intersections
3 cun directly above tip medial malleolous, posteror border of medial tibia
Crossing point of 3 yin meridians - contraindicated in pregnant women
F: support SP+KI+LR, regulate storage of xue+KI jing, dispel wind-damp from M, local for paralysis/sore muscles
I: prolapse of uterus, insomnia
Diju (SP8) - earth’s pivot
3 cun below Yinlingquan (SP9) posterior border of medial tibia
Xi-cleft pt
F: harmonise SP+ST, regulate mens, stabilise Ki Qi
I: abdoninal pain, diarrhoea, oedema, irregular mens, infertility, urinary incontinence and seminal emission
Yinlingquan (SP9) - yin mound spring
below lower border of medial condyle of tibia in depression of medial border of tibia
He-Sea pt
F: regulate water metabolism, remove damp heat, dispel wind-cold, regulate MJ
I: abd distension, incontinence of urine, dysuria, oedema, jaundice, asthmatic cough, pain on external genitalia, pain in knees
Xuehai (SP10) - Sea of blood
2 cun above medio-superior border of patella when knee flexed
F: regulate xue, clear heat in xue, adjust LJ
I: irregular mens, massive uterine bleeding, amenorrhoea, skin eruptions, eczema, painful urination,
Daheng (SP15) - great horizontal
4 cun lateral to centre of umbilicus

F: activate qi flow, regualte water metabolism, remove damp, remove parasites
I: faecal incontinence, appendicitis, fatigue, dysenteric disorders, severe diarrhoea, constipation, abdominal pain
Dabao (SP21) - great embracement
mid axillary line, 6th intercostal space
Major luo pt
F: regulate qi+xue, soften tendons+Strengthen bones, pain in chest+hypochondrium
I: asthmatic breathing, fatigue of limbs, general aching+weakness of limbs
