United Nations Mission in South Sudan
Aims to protect civilians, monitor human rights, and support delivery of human assistance. Started in 2011 sent 1000 police, 12,500 military personnel. however the UNMISS got extended there is still 14,000 troops in 2023 showing the problem has not fully been solved .

They implemented international laws by getting them to sign. Un convention on toture and Convention on rights of the child.

they are successful to the extent that they were able to get them to sign treaties and provide help and aid. However the UNIMSS was extended and in 2023 there was still 14,000 troops so it hasn’t fully sorted the problem.

christian aid. Food insecurity is one of the biggest problems in south Sudan 55% of people are food insecure. So Christian aid taught fishermen new fishing techniques which are more sustainable and increase yield of fish. This is longterm benefit as they can use techniques for a long time.
UN camps
U.N expanded civilian camps as 4.2 million people have been displaced. This was very good until it was burnt to ground killed 30 IDPs and 20,000 people living there got displaced.

In upper nile and unity regions attacks on NGOs blocked transport routes and extorted there resources. one of the most dangerous places to be an NGO worker. Medicines San Frontieres set up cholera centres and treated acute malnutrition.

-the civil war has led to internal division between ethnic groups, these has therefore weakened central authority and challenges its ability to govern effectively undermining its sovereignty
