Prior to flying as a single SO at LERT, aircrewman shall receive a local area course rules brief and fly a local area fam flight with an aircrewman familiar with the local area.
LSO Designation
Shall be designated in writing by the ship’s CO for deployment. When acting as LSO for a short duration evolution, LSO does not need to be designated in writing but LSO shall brief the ship’s CO or OOD prior to conducting DLQ evolutions.

Should conduct an OFT or FDLPNs within 90 days of scheduled DLQ requalification period.
Pilots should complete no less than 3 evolutions (takeoff, downwind, approach, and landing), emphasizing DLQ specific comms and CRM.
Events should be conducted with the same crew expected to participate in DLQs.
Pilots should be night current prior to conducting night DLQs.
Aircrewman who have not conducted free deck landings should be accompanied by an aircrewman that has.
Pre-Embarkation Proficiency
Pilots should fly a minimum of 9 hours within the 45 days preceding fly-on. Pilots shall obtain night currency and instrument currency prior to embarkation flight.
During intervals of 45 days or less between embarked ops, pilots should fly a minimum of 6 hours and achieve night and instrument currency.
Night Coupler Currency

Crew Rest
Aircrew shall not be scheduled to brief a flight until 10 hours after completion of post flight duties. Post flight duties are defined as one hour after the flights scheduled land time.
Aircrew whose crew day will exceed 12 hours shall receive CO approval.
Aircrew should be in a down status for 24 hours for every time zone crossed after 3 (5 time zones=2 days down). This begins upon aircrew’s arrival to the local time zone. This may be relaxed to a max of 72 hours for flights that will occur during day.
Pilots shall not be scheduled to fly the day following a 24 hour SDO period.
Radius of Action
Shipboard radius of action is 150 nm or max reliable navigation or communication range whichever is less. Radius of action beyond 150 nm in support of specific operational or tactical training missions may be approved by assigned CVW commander provided ORM has been conducted. Time spent beyond 150 nm shall be limited to minimum required for mission accomplishment.
Ship to ship or shore to ship: 150 nm (200 nm with functioning aux tank)
Ship to shore: 200 nm (250 nm with functioning aux tank)
Shore is defined as the nearest point at which a safe landing can be made.
Four Things Prohibited during Passengers/Orientation Flights (SIPR)
Simulated emergencies
Intentional aircraft degradations
Practice autos
Release of ordnance
…shall not be performed with passengers embarked or orientation flights.
Completion of NASTP is mandatory for all oriented unless waived.
Low Level Flight Minimum Altitudes
Overland: Populated: 1000’ AGL
Unpopulated: 500’ AGL
Overwater: Day: 50’ AGL*
Unaided Night: 150’ AGL
NVDs: 100’ AGL
