explain the solutions to conflicts between farmers and industry

A
  1. The Lake District was awarded the UNESCO world Heritage Site status which as a result has reduced the amount of quarrying in this National Park. This has reduced the number of quarry trucks causing delays and access issues for farm vehicles
  2. Quarries in the Lake District have started using water sprays to damp the dust which prevents it from spreading onto farmland
  3. Some quarries have trees surrounding them, these trees trap dust which prevents it from going onto farmland

Q

explain solutions to conflicts between tourists and farmers

A
  1. In the Lake District the NPA have given farmers biodegradable signs which have information on them about the impacts littering, sheep worrying and leaving farm gates open have. This has helped reduce these issues
  2. Farmers who sign up to the Countryside Stewardship Scheme and CRoW get grants. This allows tourists to access their land but they are expected to behave on the farmland by keeping dogs on a short lead, ensuring their dogs do not worry sheep and they keep out of cropped fields
  3. Farmers can make money out of tourists by providing tourist accommodation such as campsites or bed and breakfast and also farm shops. This makes them more likely to accept tourists onto their land
