A
- Conifer trees are shallow rooting so survive in thin, acidic soil
- Their roots bind soil together. This stops it from moving downslope due to gravity
- This prevents mudflows and landslides which are a hazard to people and property in the u-shaped valley below the slopes

A
- The older sedimentary, metamorphic and igneous rocks can be used for construction materials for roads and buildings as they are hard wearing
- Steep slopes mean there is little soil or vegetation covering the rocks, this makes the rocks easy to get therefore cheaper to quarry
