Q

why are we unable to use the first method with alkalis?

A

they are both colourless soloutions and both reactants are solouble so we are unable to know when it has been neutralised

Q

what is the process of reacting an acid with a soluble base( alkali)?

A

-you add exactly the right amount of alkali to neutralise the acid using titration
- use an indicator to show how much alkail neutralises a known volume of acid
- -repeat titration using these volumes again
- -dont add indicatpr as it woll contaminate salt
- -evaporate water to crystallise salt off
