soluble salts;alkali Flashcards
what is the second method of making solouble salts?
reacting an acid with a soluble base(Alkali)
why are we unable to use the first method with alkalis?
they are both colourless soloutions and both reactants are solouble so we are unable to know when it has been neutralised
what are some examples of soluble bases/alkailis
sodium,potassium hydroxide
what is the process of reacting an acid with a soluble base( alkali)?
-you add exactly the right amount of alkali to neutralise the acid using titration
- use an indicator to show how much alkail neutralises a known volume of acid
- -repeat titration using these volumes again
- -dont add indicatpr as it woll contaminate salt
- -evaporate water to crystallise salt off
