28-03 NATURAL GAS EMERGENCIES

Procedure for natural gas call

A
  1. park up-wind
  2. confirm natural gas leak
  3. ensure gas company is notified
  4. appropriate PPE
  5. isolate/evacuate/protect in place person in danger
  6. eliminate open sources of ignition
  7. consider outside shut off
  8. ensure escaping gas does not enter other buildings]
  9. large scale consider hazmat team
    10 use gas detector to determine concentrations
  10. ventilate naturally or with intrinsically safe equipmetn
  11. do not re-open closed gas shut off valve
  12. personnel shall work in coordination with gas technician
  13. do not attempt to extinguish gas fire unless the is a threat to life
  14. avoid entering excavations
  15. avoid stopping gas leak on a plastic pipe
  16. do not spray water on natural gas pipe
