SOG Section 17 Ventilation Flashcards
17-01 VENTILATION
Personnel should be aware at all time that fire behavior may chance drastically due to the creation of opening in the structure by?(3)
- Exiting occupants
- Structural integrity failure due to the impact of heat
- Firefighting actions
17-01 VENTILATION
What are the factors in determining a ventilation profile?(6)
- Existing and potential flow-paths
- The location and stage of the fire
- Fuel or vent limited
- Wind direction
- Smoke conditions: volume, velocity, density and colour
- Exposures
17-01 VENTILATION
What must be considered when deciding on ventilation tactics (natural, mechanical, or hydraulic)?(4)
- ventilation tactics that compliment the incident action plan
- the location of personnel committed to interior operations
- occupant location
- how tactics may affect flow-paths, fire behavior and operational time
17-02 POSITIVE PRESSURE VENTILATION
What a must be considered during PPV?(6)
- ensure fire is under control
- fan operations shall be coordinated with interior personnel
- fan placement shall cover entire inlet
- exhaust locations should be created as necessary to ensure controlled smoke removal
- an ongoing risk assessment shall be conducted
- discounting the use of the fan when checking for extention
17-02 POSITIVE PRESSURE VENTILATION
What document is SOG 17-02 PPV to be used in conjunction with?
SOG 3-24 structure fires
SOG 17-01 ventilation
training manual section 17
17-03 POSITIVE PRESSURE ATTACK
What criteria are to be met when considering PPA?((6)
- 360 complete
- confirm victims are protected in place or removed from potential flow-paths
- fire location is determined
- the fire does not involve the structure
- exhaust outlet should be at least equal to inlet
- minimum two crews on scene
17-03 POSITIVE PRESSURE ATTACK
What tactical considerations should be made
- crew are ready with charged hose line
- attack is being conducted from upwind to downwind
- no class B chemicals or potential for dust explosion
- exhaust outlet exposures are protected
- exhaust outlet is monitored
- consider extension into void space after PPA, shut down fan until no extension is determined
- creating additional openings will create additional flow paths, making PPA ineffective
