- low cardio efficency
- don’t exercise often
- have underlying diseases

What are the signs and symptoms of heat stress/exhaustion? (7)
- high core temp.
- weak and rapid pulse
- shallow and rapid respirations
- blurred vision, dizziness, headaches, loss of consciousness
- skin pale, cold, clammy
- muscle and abdominal cramps
- nausea and vomiting

When are firefighters required to rest? (4)
- after using two thirty-minute bottles or one sixty minute bottle
- after 45 mins of hard continuous work
- after 45 mins working under conditions of high temp (20 degrees Celsius) while wearing bunker gear
- any time a firefighter shows signs or symptoms of heat stress.

- there was an exposure to hazmat the exceeds breakthrough time
- the breakthrough time was estimated
- exposure to a level 4 health hazard or carcinogen
- contact to hazmat splashes or gaseous hazmat under pressure
- contact of the hazmat with the inside of the suit
- ambient temp. exceeded 100 F (38 C)
- damage or viable wear to the suit
- suit is withing 2 years of its shelf live
26-04 PPE SPECIALIZED CLEANING
What is the procedure for cleaning bunker gear that is soiled with hazardous or biohazardous material? (
- report incident to supervisor
- supervisor shall examine the extent of contamination
- ware PPE when handling soiled gear
- gear shall be removed at scene
- employee shall ensure pockets are emptied, accessories are removed, suspenders and DRD are removed
- place outer shell an liners in separate plastic bags
- if contaminated with biohazardous material the bags shall be placed in a red bio bag, if not biohazardous then placed in a second clear bag
- complete red contamination form, which contains name of firefighter and what the gears is contaminated with, place between first and second bag
- return gear to station then have gear transported to A&M
- but secondary gear into service.

What ensemble elements can be sent for specialized cleaning and what must be cleaned in house?
gloves and balaclavas can be sent. boots and helmets may be cleaned in house using mild detergent

What is the procedure for getting bunker gear repaired when damaged
- report to supervisor
- take out of service
- fill out special cleaning and repair work order form and submit electronically to supply and equipment officer
- use spare gear
- pants and coats should be sent as a unit even if only one element requires repair.
- arrange for gear to be sent to supply and equipment officer
- do not wash damaged gear before it is sent for repair
- supply and equipment officer will arrange for the element to be sent for repair
- repairs will be logged in the PPE management software

Where do the copies of HAZMAT exposure reports go?
white - Local 1068 WSIB rep
yellow - platoon or division chief
pink - retained by employee

Who fills out the workplace injur/illness reports when there is a significant exposure.
Part A filled out by injured persons officer and forwarded to admin
Part B filled out by platoon/division chief as part of the investigation of the incident
