- Person being harmed must want to avoid the harm
violence vs agression
violence
= intent to cause severe physical harm
Frustration-Aggression hypothesis
3 aspects
-All frustration leads to aggression, all aggression comes from frustration
-Frustration is a blockage of a goal directed activity
-Aggression is driven by a goal to overcome/neutralise a feeling of frustration. Known as catharsis
Excitiation-Transfer model:
Emotion based on A and B
Emotion based on cognitive arousal and cognitive label
Excitiation-Transfer theory:
When phsiological arousal from a neutral activity is still present when a person encounters an anger-elicitying situation, the earlier arousal (excitation) is transferred onto the anger related arousal and falsely attributed as anger -> leads to an increase likelihood that the indiv will behave aggressively
