social learning theory Flashcards
how is behaviour learned?
from the environment through observational learning
what is imitation?
copying the behaviour of others
using others as a model
what is modelling?
demonstrating a particular behaviour that may imitated
what is identification?
where the observer associates themselves with a role model and wants to be like the role model. they may posses similar/ desired characteristics or behaviours
what is vicarious reinforcement?
where an observer not only sees someone’s behaviour but also the consequence of their behaviour.
there is an increased likelihood of copying if the behaviour is rewarded
what are the 4 mediations processes?
- attention: extent to which we notice behaviour
- retention: how well behaviour is remembered
- motor reproduction: ability of the observer to perform the behaviour
- motivation: the observers will to perform a behaviour
what is a limitation of SLT?
the research is based on lab experiments —> artificial setting —> not reflective of real world —>less valid
