Zajonc model basis
Audience and co-actors cause an increase in arousal due to their presence but are passive as they aren’t involved in the event. Competitors and social reinforcers have more direct impact giving encouragement or causing distractions.
Inhibition beginner definition
When performance of a beginner is influenced negatively by the presence of others
Facilitation expert definition
When performance of an expert is influenced positively by the presence of others
Expert dominant response
Well learned, automatic under pressure, leads to facilitation
Novice dominant response
Poorly learned and inaccurate, complex and automatic under pressure. Leads to pressurised performance and inhibition
Evaluation apprehension
The fear of being judged, the negative effect of the audience if the performer thinks they are being judged. Worse if we know the audience, lack confidence or the audience contains scouts.
