makes all decisions and dictates instructions. task orientated and concerned with results
democratic leader
leader listens to the group before making a decision. person orientated and concerned with individual success.
laissez faire
leader has little input and team is led by senior players. less motivated players can stop working
when to use autocratic (most favourable)
clear task, group get on, strong and respected leader, high motivation, high ability and good cohesion
when to use democratic leadership
moderately favourable, need for consultation, some support / clarity, time to discuss, moderate motivation and ability
when to use autocratic (less favourable)
unclear task, dangerous, hostile group, weak and unrespected leader, low motivation, need for quick decision
when to use laissez faire
time available, experienced performers, autonomous learner, high motivation, no danger
