A negative aspect of stress characterised by irrational thinking.
Competitive trait anxiety
Suffers from nerves in most sporting situations, it is consistent and stable
Competitive state anxiety
Experienced at a specific time during a competitive situation. Depends on the situation

Taking a penalty to decide the game
Somatic anxiety
Physiological (physical) responses - muscular tension, sweating, increased HR
Cognitive anxiety
Psychological (mental) responses - irrational thinking, worrying, confusion
