What is privilege?

A

Advancements, advantages, rights, immunity or any other benefit held by a group (typically in power, or in a majority) that arise out of the oppression of another group. People who are privileged are often unaware, and do not see the perspectives of the group or individual who is oppressed.

What is intersectionality?

A

Intersectionality is the acknowledgement that everyone has their own unique experiences of discrimination and oppression and we must consider everything and anything that can marginalise people – gender, race, class, sexual orientation, physical ability, etc

What is Bill 21?

A

Bill 21 is a secularism law passed in Quebec in 2019. It bans figures (e.g. school teachers, police officers, judges) or basically any civil servants in a position of authority, from wearing religious symbols (e.g. hijabs, kippas, crucifixes, turbans) at work.

A

Empathy: Fuels connection, perspective taking, staying out of judgement, recognizing emotions in others and communicating that. “Feeling with people”
