When would you use a PAR-Q?
When planning to start an exercise or training plan / routine
Why do we perform a warm up?
Prepare muscles
Prepare joints
Prepare mind
Reduce risk of injury
Prepare ligament
Prepare the cardiovascular system
What are the three stages of a warm up?
1.Cardiovascular
2.Stretching ( static and dynamic )
3.Sports specific
What do we do in the cardiovascular phase of a warm up?
To gradually raise the heart rate towards the working heart rate
What do we do in the stretching phase of the warm up?
Static : on the spot stretching without straining
Dynamic: stretches that are movement specific to a sport, gradually increasing your reach and speed
Why is the sport specific phase of our warm up important?
To match an in-game situation and to practice the skills of the activity you are going to perform
What are the two phases to a cooldown?
- A light jog or another physical cardiovascular activity ( cardiovascular phase ) but aiming to gradually decrease our heart rate to our resting level ( 5-10 mins )
- 10-15 minutes of stretching, hold for 30-35 secs
What makes a goal SMART?
Specificity
Measurable
Achievable
Realistic
Time-bound
Why do we set SMART goals?
To motivate performers and to help performers to achieve their optimum performance
If a goal is too easy or too hard, it can demotivate the performer
